SAFE GRAD
Graduation day for the class of 2022 is fast approaching. Each year graduates face potential danger in drug and alcohol related accidents on this emotionally charged night. It is their last time together as a unit; strange feelings are experienced and things happen that normally do not happen at other times. To add mood-altering chemicals to this emotional climate may result in exaggerated effects of the chemical. Their risks increase significantly.
Parents wait through this night holding their breath, hoping beyond hope their child does not become another statistic. We know, traditionally, there are parties and celebrations, and unfortunately, in many cases, the use of drugs and alcohol. Another key element this night is the automobile. It is this combination that causes the greatest concern.
Since 1984, we at SSHS have offered an alternative to the traditional graduation party held on graduation night. For this one critical night we are making available to every graduate an opportunity to join their classmates in a school-community sponsored SAFE GRAD party. Your child is one of those graduates. This effort on the part of the school supports our belief that students do not need to use alcohol and drugs to have fun.
Over the years, we have averages over 90% participation by our seniors in SAFE GRAD. We hope to repeat this with the class of 2022.
Teachers and parents receive considerable satisfaction from knowing that SAFE GRAD has been a resounding success. May this success stimulate a new confidence in the youth of our community. St. Stephen High School is populated with a large number of fine young people who are often overlooked. May we work with you as a team for a worthy cause of attempting to make every night a SAFE GRAD night for our youth.
